He believed that it would be impossible to reach an agreement with Germany because the government was bent on world domination. He proved to be a brilliant war-leader and helped lead his country to victory in the Battle of Britain. The Battle of Britain permanently stalled the planned German invasion. The appointment of Winston Churchill in May 1940 probably saved Britain and ultimately laid the foundation for the Allied victory.
