The second world war was arguably the most catastrophic war in human history. The origins of the second world war in Europe are complex and controversial. This argument in this books is book argues that the ultimate cause of the second world war was the Nazi seizure of power. Once Hitler came to power, war in Europe was inevitable given his ideology and personality. The Treaty of Versailles was bitterly resented by many ordinary Germanys, especially the loss of its colonies and as a result they were intensely nationalistic and this led them to accept and support the Nazi government. This together with the impact of the Great Depression allowed an extremist, Adolf Hitler to seize power and to start an international conflict in Europe.
